An interesting article suggesting microglia may delay onset of retinitis pigmentosa.

  1. Microglial are tiny little engines of change and are part of the complex cascade of the immune response in the brain. Retinal tissues contain microglial cells as well. Where there is inflammation, there is actually alteration of gene expression leading to new proteins enabling rebuilding of structures, along with numeroous other activities. In essence, activating microglia could be a pathway to rebuilding a damaged (or aging) nervous system. Once you can replace and rebuild the CNS, the rest is a piece of cake! We begin with the eye, specifically the retina. And the rest is up to science.
